Global Protect VPN: Installing and Connecting

Requirements
- SLAC Account: You need a SLAC Active Directory (Windows) account.
- Device: You must use a SLAC managed device to access the Global Protect VPN. Personal devices cannot use Global Protect.
- Multi-Factor Authentication: You need to use multi-factor authentication. If you haven't enrolled in Duo or YubiKey, click here for instructions.
Installing and Connecting to Global Protect VPN
Installing Global Protect
- On SLAC-managed Windows and macOS devices, the VPN client (Global Protect) is pre-installed
- Windows: launch Global Protect from the Start menu or hidden icons
- MacOS: Launch Global Protect from Applications/Spotlight or menu bar
- Windows: launch Global Protect from the Start menu or hidden icons
- If you don’t see the app or have uninstalled it, download it from:
- Windows: Open Software Center or Company Portal, search for and click on the Global Protect app installer
- MacOS: Open the Self Service application, search for and click on the Global Protect app installer
Portal Configuration
- Open the GlobalProtect app
- In the Portal field, enter or select gpvpn.slac.stanford.edu
- Click "Connect"
- If prompted to select a certificate, choose any certificate from the list. For the first time use only: select the device certificate to proceed with the connection
Authenticate and Connect
- If you have already authenticated via single sign-on (SSO) on other websites in your default browser, you will be automatically authenticated (no login required) and taken directly to the page below to connect to GlobalProtect.
Otherwise:
- A web browser will open with two login options: Stanford or SLAC
- Click on either and enter your ID and password. Both options require two-factor authentication
- Once authenticated, you will be connected to the GlobalProtect VPN
