Installing SLAC Cardinal Key for Windows
This will install SLAC Cardinal Key on a SLAC-owned and managed Windows computer to provide passwordless access to services requiring Stanford SUnet ID.

Installing Cardinal Key on a laptop or desktop with a wireless network card
- Visit Cloudpath website:https://onboard.cloudpath.net/enroll/StanfordUniversity/CardinalKeySLAC/
- In the field provided, enter the Property Control asset tag number of the computer.
3. Download the Cardinal Key installer and run it
Click the “Download .exe for Windows” to download the installer, and then run it.
(If the installer doesn’t download properly, try the “Alternative: Download zip file” link.)
4. Installing
The Cloudpath installer will appear and install the Cardinal Key certificates.
5. Installation completed, try accessing a service
When the Cloudpath installer completes, you are done with the installation. Close any existing browser and reopen. Visit axess.stanford.edu to confirm it is working.
Installing Cardinal Key on a laptop or desktop without a wireless network card
- Visit Cloudpath website:https://onboard.cloudpath.net/enroll/StanfordUniversity/CardinalKeySLAC/
- In the field provided, enter the Property Control asset tag number of the computer.
3.Click on "Show all operating systems"
4.Select "Other Operating System"
5. Click on Step 1 through Step 3 and follow the prompts.
6. Select "Current User"
7. Enter the certificate password and select "Include all extended properties".
8. Make sure "Automatically select the certificate store based on the type of certificate", and click Next.
9. Click Finish
10. Select Yes on the Security Warning Pop Up.
11. Certificate has been imported successfully. Click OK.
Failure notice when logging in with Cardinal Key
Cardinal Key will stop providing access if your computer falls out of compliance with SLAC's minimum cybersecurity requirements. You'll be presented with a "Cardinal Key Status" message, along with a username and password prompt.
Provide the information status in a ServiceNow ticket for the IT Service Desk, along with the Property Control asset tag number.
