How to Install Missing EPICS Fonts on Linux

If you're encountering font issues with EPICS (Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System) interfaces on Ubuntu or Rocky, installing the required X11 fonts typically resolves these issues. Follow these steps to install and refresh your font cache.

Install Missing Fonts

Ubuntu

Open your terminal and execute the following command to install the required X11 fonts:

sudo apt update
sudo apt install -y xfonts-traditional xfonts-base xfonts-100dpi xfonts-75dpi xfonts-cyrillic

Refresh the Font Cache

After installing the fonts, refresh the font cache to ensure your system recognizes the new fonts:

sudo fc-cache -f -v

Verify Installation  (Optional)

To verify that the fonts are correctly installed, you can list available fonts with the command:

fc-list | grep -i "xfonts"

You should see the newly installed fonts listed in the output.
