Shipping SLAC Systems to an Off-site Location

Overview

This article outlines the responsibilities for shipping SLAC systems to an off-site location. These only pertain to shipping during normal operations.

Departmental and User Responsibilities

  • The Departmental Administrator is responsible for shipping the computer to the end-user
  • The Departmental Administrator must ensure that the SLAC Offsite Use Form is completed and sent to Property Control
  • The SLAC Offsite Use Form must be:
    1. Signed by the User (Custodian)
    2. Signed (approved) by the Supervisor or Department Head
    3. Sent to Property Control

Service Desk Responsibilities

  • Install the appropriate image (Windows, Mac) on the system
  • Ensure that the system is verifiably encrypted
  • Using Remote Desktop, have the user log in to the system to create a cached profile
  • Create a local account (with administrative privileges) so that the user can login, in case there are any issues or emergencies with a domain login
  • Initiate SLAC Offsite Use Form
    • Fill out PC number and device description
    • Send form to Departmental Administrator for signature of Supervisor or Department Head

Peripherals and Computer Accessories

  • Departmental Administrators are responsible for shipping peripherals and computer accessories
  • No Offsite use form is required
