SLAC Mailing Lists and Distribution Lists

There are 2 types of mailing lists available to SLAC staff and users: LISTSERV Mailing Lists + Archives, and Active Directory Distribution List (or Mail-Enabled Security Groups)

LISTSERV General Mailing Lists 

LISTSERV software is quite versatile and powerful in its capabilities. It provides:

  • Mailing list management
  • Archives for received emails
  • Available to people with SLAC Active Directory (Windows) or Unix accounts.
  • Any email address can be added to membership
  • Send emails to cell phone numbers with valid carrier email address.
  • And much more!

Active Directory Distribution Lists or Mail-Enabled Security Groups

Active Directory Distributions Lists are groups that live in Active Directory. Members of these groups can receive email that is sent to the group email address. These can also be used when the list is serving as a Security group for file access. Members of these lists can only be internal SLAC Active Directory (Windows) users. To request a new Windows Distribution lists or a Mail-enabled Security Group, please submit a request using the Distribution List Request Form. Indicate the new list-name as it should appear in the Outlook Address Book.
