The Controlled Unclassified Information program goes live Oct. 1, 2025 — learn how to protect sensitive info and access key resources to stay compliant.
Controlled Unclassified Information Program Rollout
The DOE has mandated SLAC to comply with Executive Order (EO) 13556, "Controlled Unclassified Information." This directive aims to standardize the way federal agencies handle unclassified information. Prior to EO 13556, the agencies had their own methods and policies for handling such information, which resulted in inconsistency and inefficiency. The program includes implementing a uniform system for marking, safeguarding, decontaminating, and declassifying documents designated as CUI. The ultimate goal of the program is to create an open and uniform framework to manage all unclassified information that requires safeguarding and dissemination controls as required by law, regulation, and Government-wide policy.
