During a recent Department of Energy audit, it was determined that SLAC is required to: “Develop and maintain an accurate inventory of components that includes sufficient detail to support risk-based authorization decisions.”
The Configuration Management Database (CMDB) is a tool that allows us to query the network and update a centralized inventory of configuration items (CIs) with this information. The CMDB will provide a comprehensive view of our IT infrastructure and business processes so we can quickly identify, diagnose, and respond to issues more effectively. We are also able to provide a ticket history of CIs which will greatly improve our ability to identify and correlate issues in ways that may not have been obvious before. The first iteration of the CMDB was released in December 2023. We will continue expanding the capabilities by adding new features, reports, and data sources over the coming years.
