Andrew File System (AFS) Retirement
After over a quarter century of service at SLAC, the Andrew File System (AFS) is being retired. AFS, a distributed file system that has been in use at SLAC since the mid 1990’s, has served multiple purposes including scientific data storage, general file storage, home directory storage, and backend support for local databases and websites. AFS is being decommissioned and replaced by more modern, secure, and supportable file systems.
For current AFS users storing data or managing AFS-dependent systems, action is required. To guide you through this process, we’ve compiled a list of FAQs (note: login is required to access the FAQs).
